Are you feeling all Christmassy yet? Can't say I am: just been trying to work out what effect it will have on cash flow for those customers whose bills are due on or about the 31st December. Will they pay up before they break up and thus let me have a good Christmas? Or will they get boozed up at the office party, fall asleep and wake up in time to go home early and s*d paying anybody until well into 2017? Yeah, that's my guess too.
Ok, let's be clear. This is not a competition. I am not offering prizes. Just because I mentioned that one of my readers texted me before 07.00 on Monday a couple of weeks ago, it does not mean that you have to jostle to surpass it. (But for the record, it was an 06.35 e-mail which at least didn't disturb my well-deserved [desperately needed] beauty-sleep).
Some twenty or so years ago, when we lived back in Sheffield, I was sufficiently interested in a meeting of the Matlock Railway Club to drive the 25 miles over one evening when they met at a pub somewhere (as I recall) up near the council offices. What the meeting was about, other than I think it was a slide show, I do not now remember, but it was clearly not of sufficient interest for me to repeat the exercise.

In a post back in February ('of the locos at Scunthorpe') I bemoaned a certain magazine that took text from either this blog or Andrew's website, condensed it, and in so doing made it inaccurate and our work seem ineffectual. The latest edition came out on Thursday, and guess what? They've done it again!

No sooner had I committed my anticipated demise to the web on last week's blog than news came through that on the contrary, my fellow Germans would valiantly defend against the Allies to enable the train – and me – to escape uninjured. But all of that in a little while.

The week seems to have been taken up with a lot of my time dedicated to Andrew. (Actually someone might say, "how unusual"). What with ordering a larger drive pulley to speed up the charge pumps on D2128 (we will be going from 1:1 to around 1:1,56, which means we should be delivering 5 US gallons at idle and when we get bold enough to run the engine at full chat, the pump will be just under its maximum of 3000rpm) we have also managed to get to the MoD at Bicester to view more rolling stock that Ramco are auctioning, and a meeting with Peak Rail's MD.

They say that moving house is one of the most traumatic things in your life. But it became apparent, as we got the keys on Tuesday with no prospect of having it fully functional until late August, that for us, moving is going to be a sedate and (I hope) relaxed affair as we pick ourselves piece by piece (or maybe van-full by van-full) from Briddon Towers and relocate it all in Briddon Country Pile. We'll be spending next weekend there (I hope again) as we must be at Rowsley both days for the "Warring 40s" event but this weekend has been the usual split.

A couple of weeks ago I said that the departure date for Pluto was the 25th and could not be deferred. I was wrong. All it needed was the driver to ring in sick and Heanors have no spare man available because of holidays. Peak Rail’s Rob Sanders and I had been waiting 45 minutes before we learnt this of course, and after a flurry of phone calls, we re-scheduled the move to Friday.

There was a theory behind naming this blog Weekend Rails that one works Monday to Friday and “plays” Saturday and Sunday. Occasionally however, necessities mean that the format gets blurred, and so it was this last weekend, with Andrew away overseeing fitters carrying out mods on a carriage somewhere. But having seen this state of affairs in the offing, he instead took an afternoon off during the week and headed over to Rowsley with the intention of maintaining progress on “Libby”.
