With the drama of getting the orders placed now behind me, this week has been something of an anti-climax. For one thing, the accountants have been nagging to get my paperwork ready for their audit, so that has taken precedence. But on Monday Andrew had seen on e-bay a chap advertising an office type 6ft cabinet at a good price, and although it was located south of Grantham, it was worth going after if it stayed low. At least I thought so, and bid for it and then set off to collect some bits from Sheffield. When I returned, I was the proud owner of another cabinet. After an exchange of e-mails graduating to texts, I arranged to go down on Tuesday to collect.
After a slight hiccup in communication, which resulted in me sitting around most of Monday afternoon, I set off for Langwith to collect the newly-ebayed cement mixer. It was though waiting for me on arrival, swiftly loaded into the van, and I set off back for Darley Dale with it in the back and I thought, unlikely to 'go anywhere'. It is a cross-country trip up hill and down dale, and all was well until, braking steadily on a downhill with a sharp bend at the bottom, a car coming the other way came wide around the bend and onto my side of the road. I braked hard. There was no collision, but the mixer set off down the van, toppled over and sculpted a new dent in the toolbox.

It may surprise some people to know that I was an n.g. enthusiast before I became professionally involved with s.g. and in many respects I would rather be involved with 2ft than 4ft 81/2". I was at one point offered a job as Commercial Manager for Bala Lake Railway by the instigator and Chief-Of-Almost-Everything George Barnes, only for the company Chairman, Tom Jones (no, not that Tom Jones, this one was a Gwynedd County Councillor - you really must keep up with the Jones's...) politely to withdraw it as the railway "could not afford me".

The narrow gauge theme started by the Amberley visit continued this week. On Wednesday night Steph and I met Andrew at Butterley for their annual n.g. open night. (We met for the simple reason that he was on his return journey from Eastleigh.) These open nights have a similar theme - two or three runs the length of the GVLR with resident 0-4-2T "Joan", then the area around Butterley is de-marked into sections and a loco is set on each and visitors are free to have a go.
