As you know, we are apt to acquire things from auctions. Not just e-bay, but “traditional” auctions where the bidding may be on-line but more often in person. But years of watching BBC's Bargain Hunt has taught us to know what it is you are bidding for, what it is worth and not get carried away with the moment.
You were lucky to see last week's edition anywhere near to time. I set off south having (I thought) set it to publish at nine p.m. but in my haste had not got it right. Fortunately my hoster - Bill Hyde at Priday Design - not only provides a first-class service but is also a reader and a friend. He popped in to the administration section, realised I'd got it wrong and set it right!
Several readers speculated, after my teaser at the end of last week's edition, whether things had kicked off with Peak Rail's management again, which was logical but actually not so. 'It' has had a significant effect on events this week though, and resulted in the title being apposite (not a house move, but count them!). Plenty of pictures too, so should be a colourful edition.
Thank heavens for long summer evenings, we've needed all the daylight we can get this week. The week began with efforts to get the first section of floor painted in the shed, but as much of the week relates to events that occurred earlier, I suppose I had better rewind...

The narrow gauge theme started by the Amberley visit continued this week. On Wednesday night Steph and I met Andrew at Butterley for their annual n.g. open night. (We met for the simple reason that he was on his return journey from Eastleigh.) These open nights have a similar theme - two or three runs the length of the GVLR with resident 0-4-2T "Joan", then the area around Butterley is de-marked into sections and a loco is set on each and visitors are free to have a go.

A couple of weeks ago I said that the departure date for Pluto was the 25th and could not be deferred. I was wrong. All it needed was the driver to ring in sick and Heanors have no spare man available because of holidays. Peak Rail’s Rob Sanders and I had been waiting 45 minutes before we learnt this of course, and after a flurry of phone calls, we re-scheduled the move to Friday.

Saturday: Rowsley seems to be becoming a second home lately. With me having all my gear in the 407, and Andrew wanting to run the Land Rover to collect some bits for “Coronation”, we ended up taking two vehicles. In the end it was fortuitous that the Land Rover was there, for the Heritage Shunter Trust’s ‘new’ mobile crane was stuck in mud and the Land Rover ended up assisting it on to terra firma.

On Monday I was back up to Elsecar, to oversee the departure of Drewry 0-4-0DM 72229. Heanor Haulage arrived pretty well to time, with a folding neck trailer rather than the normal low loading type. This has the advantage that the rails are built into the folding part, and having unfolded, forms an instant ramp.

OK, so just who was it decided it was the last weekend of the month? Regular readers will recall that according to Andrew, the last weekend is the one where all good plans go belly-up. For Andrew himself, it was time to go visit the girlfriend, so after a week of night-shifts on Manchester Metrolink (he’s on placement there) he headed off Friday evening having arranged for 14 901 to return to Rowsley so that I could continue with the pegboard and strip on Saturday.
