The eagle-eyed amongst you might have noticed that the url line for Weekend Rails has changed a bit. It is now an https rather than just a mere http, which means I apparently have an SSL certificate for it, as I also seemingly have for both my commercial site and Andrew's loco site. You might think that this means I'll be out buying picture frames so that I can have them in a line on the wall. Sadly no, it's not that sort of certificate.
Once again it has been a week where the work has mostly been on the shed infrastructure and is not particularly 'sexy'. The temperature has dropped, so the space heater was dusted off and fired up for several days, though I'll have to stock up on paraffin soon. This weekend we didn't get our regular allocation of 3 visiting enthusiasts, but three have already booked a visit next Saturday – thinks: must get around to making a collection tin.
Ok, let's be clear. This is not a competition. I am not offering prizes. Just because I mentioned that one of my readers texted me before 07.00 on Monday a couple of weeks ago, it does not mean that you have to jostle to surpass it. (But for the record, it was an 06.35 e-mail which at least didn't disturb my well-deserved [desperately needed] beauty-sleep).
My apologies to those of you who logged in last night looking for this – sometimes on Bank Holiday weekends I maintain the rhythm and post on Sundays, at other times I may be too tired and postpone until after the Bank Holiday Monday. This week has been one of those.
So, there we were on Monday having a quick meeting with the contractor and reviewing progress to date. We are all agreed that the floor design wants modifying, and that none of us can work out exactly how we are supposed (in reality) to get the DPM to go the way the drawings show it, so I have gone back to the Structural Engineers with fresh drawings and asked them to come up with an alternative scheme. Meanwhile I was sorting out the personnel doors, and the concrete panels that will form the inside walls of the building up to head height. We had agreed with the contractor that work would commence on the steelwork on the 17th February, and I planned deliveries accordingly.

The overlap between my activities with Andrew and commercial work has been extensive again this week. It was after all, Andrew’s acquisition of the re-railing jacks from Doncaster that enabled me to broker the deal that saw the East Anglian Railway Museum acquire the Plasser crane, and while I was there putting the engine back in, I’d had a chance to have a quick look at more bits coming up for auction. So it was that on Wednesday I back yet again in Doncaster, “officially” inspecting the lots of an on-line auction due to close on Friday.

No doubt about it, this classed as the “last weekend of the month”. No: no problems reported from the Carmarthen direction, well, other than a phone conversation about a minor fuel leak, but progress has not been without problems.
