So, as we left things last week “Grace” was sat outside at Rowsley and 14901 was ready to head off for a week's holiday in sunny Bury. So first thing Monday it was down to see the swap over. Andrew had the day off, and ran a few errands to Matlock sorting out a replacement fan belt for the winch engine, meanwhile a ramp was assembled, and with all sorted Grace was rolled down and whisked away by Charlie, and I brought 14 901 over and on to the bottom of the ramp. The 14 was loaded and headed north up the A6 with Andrew in pursuit to see it off and through an FTR.

Andrew had a day off work this week, and decided to spend an afternoon at Peak Rail on “Libby”. Sadly it was not as productive as he planned, for a substation blew up (apparently quite spectacularly) and took out all the electrics from Matlock to Bakewell. In contrast, he was off to see his girlfriend on Saturday, so enquired “if I had nothing better to do,” whether I might like, weather permitting, to go to Murton and start fitting the oil separator to “Pluto”. I knows my place.

And so another August Bank Holiday is upon us. Andrew was away on Saturday, but was anxious that I went up to the DVLR, partly to deliver two radiator elements as spares for Trevor and Vince – owners of D9523 – and partly so that I could make up a fresh drawing of the vac brake linkage on “Pluto” with a view to replacing it with a more rigid one.
