Of rock salt and hydraulic oil

28th January 2018

Some weeks in this saga mark significant milestones. Others just little stepping stones. This week's is much in tune with the former, as Andrew became equipped to transport a proportion of his fleet (not the heavier ones, yet) on his own low-load trailer.

Of Sentinel, Lister and York Metro

7th January 2018

Oh dear, starting this a bit late tonight – been watching part 1 of that Strawbridge character trying to build a model railway all across Scotland.

Of various personages

12th November 2017

I looked over at the Darley hillside while shunting this afternoon. The trees were an attractive mix of greens and browns in the wintery sunshine, but the wind was chilling. Back at the Briddon Country Pile the central heating pump has died and the plumbers reckon a replacement is 2-3 days. Brrr.

Of vac and van

5th November 2017

It's actually Monday as I get this loaded, sorry if you've been waiting up Sunday night – hope it's worth the delay!

Of a tale of two specials

8th October 2017

You wait ages for a special train and then two come at once. Well OK, not quite at once, but on the same day. So anyway...

Of ramp at the ready

10th September 2017

14901 is still on holiday in Old Oak. It was supposed to be collected on Wednesday, but early on in the week it was apparent that Reids would have to reschedule so what was the last exhibit to arrive at the Open Day looks like being the last to depart.

Of broom and Brush

20th August 2017

It's amazing, given the general untidiness and dust prevalent at the Geoffrey Briddon Building, how many brooms we have amassed. Here's a selection, and that isn't even all of them, nor those which have been burnt after I spotted woodworm in them. Quite why they have all found sanctuary here is something of a mystery, but here they are. I suppose it all adds to the quirkiness of our existence.

Of Team Tarmac

6th August 2017

Seems like there's a lot to say this week. I sometimes ask myself have I gone into things in too much detail to the point of inducing boredom, or is it too brief for those who don't indulge in this locomotive lunacy to understand what is going on.

Of Crewe, Severn and South Wales

23rd July 2017

No, not a hitherto unknown Col Stephens type railway but a selection of visitors that have passed through our doors this week.

Of landmarks and sand-castles

9th July 2017

Every so often we pass a milepost – some event or other that marks the next stage in shed development or a loco restoration. Some give a sense of satisfaction, even elation, while others just leave you with a feeling of 'well at least that's over'.
