First Entry

July 31st/August 1st 2010

Saturday – Scunthorpe. The 407 was laden down with all the usual kit, plus Andrew’s Cebora MIG welder etc so that he could weld in a replacement section to the radiator filler neck on “Beverley”. I had various little jobs to do, including some bits and bobs on the 03 and replacing a damaged gearbox cylinder air hose on “Bev’” with nylon pipework.

Charging around

3rd October 2010

The portrayal of what we know today as a Class 08 as the evil, slimy ‘Diesel’ in the Thomas books must have had a profound effect on the young, impressionable me, and influenced my view of what a good shunting loco should be. Today I can rationalise it much better – and have done in a few places...

A fond Claire-well and multiple tasks

14th November 2010

During the week we said a metaphoric goodbye to another of Andrew’s locos – “Claire” – depicted below. It was I suppose inevitable that with three ‘identical’ Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0DHs – “Claire” “Grace” and “Beverley” – Andrew needing to thin out the numbers would lead to one or even two of them departing, but I have fond memories of “Claire” – one of the most travelled locos in the collection.
