Of thinking and spraying

12th August 2018

You just cannot underestimate the power of the written word. Only last week I declared my dissatisfaction with the on-going heat and look! It's been raining today, we've had to have the lights on in the shed and I nearly took a sweater down with me. So, what if I declare that this week I'll win the lottery? Aah, hang on, I've seen a snag in that. I don't play.

Of gas oil and hedgehog houses

29th July 2018

Back again? Not so many pictures to show this week - one of those weeks where a lot of things happen but scarcely worth photographing. So best read on..

Of sand and crate

22nd July 2018

Another sweltering week here at the Briddon Country PIle. The grounds around the mansion are parched. Part of the Darley Dale yard is transforming into a sandy desert. Oh hang on, that was the blasting contractor.

Of seals, bushes and carpenters

10th June 2018

Right, back to normal. Have you seen that first programme on carriage restoration (C4) presented by Peter Snow and Henry Cole? (The latter has his own series 'Shed and Buried' which is frequently on in the afternoons on Travel Channel. Steph used to watch it if she wanted an afternoon snooze - his voice guaranteed to put her in a stupour). But why, given he is a motor-bike afficianado with no rail knowledge, is he co-presenting?

Of spherilastik magic

20th May 2018

I know, I shouldn't moan about the sun after all the rain and snow we've had, but I got this dashcam for Christmas and the self-adhesive pad that is supposed to hold it to the windscreen goes soft after an hour or so parked in direct sunshine and I come back to find the camera ready to take close-ups of the passenger side floor. I'm getting tired of trying to get it to stick again and prodding the cable back into the trim around the screen. Another fall or two and it's out with the epoxy.

Of air and fuel tanks

13th May 2018

The trouble with Bank Holidays is that by the time I get around to writing this blog, so much has passed that I have difficulty remembering exactly what it was we did. I know, blame it on galloping dementia.
