Evenin' all, (salutes and adopts friendly 'Dixon of Dock Green-esque' smile). Ready for another instalment? Well, here it is.

Of gas oil and hedgehog houses

29th July 2018

Back again? Not so many pictures to show this week - one of those weeks where a lot of things happen but scarcely worth photographing. So best read on..

Of blissful ignorance

28th May 2017

Maybe it is better to live in blissful ignorance, unaware of just how many young people have decided that Darley Dale yard is some sort of Adventure playground just made for them.

Of Pimms or Champagne

18th September 2016

You may be aware that I get a number of comments, observations, mickey-takes etc about this blog during the week and many of them – most really – come direct through one of my e-mail addresses as most 'regulars' have long since got to know them. I sometimes forget though that others use the 'contact page' on the Weekend Rails website and occasionally this can give a spot of bother.

Of looking on the bright side

24th July 2016

It's been a long hot week up here in Derbyshire (and the other places I've been to for that matter) and I especially enjoyed being sat on the M25 Tuesday evening after two cars and a foreign forty-footer closed it at Junction 25 when they all decided to occupy that bit of raod at the same instant. OK, not as bad as the poor souls stuck overnight in their cars trying to make it out of the country through Dover, but why is it that traffic always seems to increase, never matching the rise or fall of the economy?

Of insulation and washing lines

22nd May 2016

Grr, Microsoft. I was (notice the past tense) running Windows 7 and was perfectly happy with it, hiding behind my Firewall and Anti-virus, Anti-Malware, anti-everything softwares. And what does Microsoft do? While my back is turned, under the pretense of it being an 'upgrade' to Windows 7, they calmly change my operating system to Windows 10 without my permission and lumber me with software I don't want (but Microsoft knows better and believes I cannot live without) and a changed system that is so radically different that a number of the programs I already have won't work anymore.

Of Thelma and Louise

15th November 2015

Andrew has had a week off between finishing with his old employer and starting with his new, and it was fortuitous that this coincided not only with getting the conflats ready but further work from our contractor on the building. We are now about 95% weathertight.

Of clocks and conflats

1st November 2015

I can't believe that 2015 is five-sixths over. I normally find this time of year depressing – the clocks go back, and suddenly the weather seems to be colder, the days massively shorter. Maybe if we kept the clocks the same the winter would never get a toe-hold.
